SV Rover: American super SUV in the style of the classic Land Rover Defender

The Scarbo Vintage company from the American state of California presented its third model — a buggy-style SV Rover SUV with a completely original chassis and a lightweight two-seater body styled after the classic Land Rover Defender. The SV Rover is available with a petrol or electric powertrain, in both cases its power exceeds 1000 hp.

The SV Rover is a new competitor to SUVs such as the Brabus 900 Crawler, Prodrive Hunter and Vanderhall Brawley. The advantages of the SV Rover include the recognizable styling of the classic British Defender and the ability to choose between petrol and electric powertrains. For Scarbo Vintage, founded by entrepreneur and car enthusiast Joe Scarbo, the SV Rover is the third model. The first was the single-seat track sports car SV F1 in the style of the 1967 Ferrari 312 formula car, it is equipped with a 507-horsepower GM V8 and costs from $250,000. The second model is the 1,014-horsepower supercar-restomod SV RSR based on the classic Porsche 911, it costs from $935,000. By the way, in a special version of the SV RSR, the legendary racer Ken Block stormed Pikes Peak in 2022. SV Rover will be the most expensive model in the Californian company's range: the price has not been officially announced, but, according to Motor Authority magazine, the SUV will cost from $1.5 million.

At the heart of the SV Rover is a strong space-tube frame. The body is made of carbon fiber and aluminum; a good half of it is occupied by the power plant located in front of the rear axle. The demo sample is equipped with a 1115-horsepower petrol compressor V8 paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, but you can also choose an electric motor with a power of 750 kW (1020 hp) in combination with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 75 kWh. Drive — rear or all-wheel drive, all-wheel drive versions have a two-stage transfer case, and cross-axle differentials are equipped with locks. Dynamic and performance characteristics of the SV Rover have not yet been announced.

SV Rover has a typical racing long-travel (up to 76 cm) adjustable push-rod air suspension in a circle. The chassis is fully controlled, which gives the wide SUV enviable maneuverability. Custom 20-inch forged wheels are wrapped in 40-inch knobby tires. All wheels are equipped with powerful Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with 6-piston calipers, the diameter of the brake discs is 400 mm.

There are only two seats in the cabin, the driver and sole passenger sit in Sparco racing buckets. The front panel, made of aluminum, has 12.3-inch instrument and 12.8-inch multimedia screens. Huge paddles are installed behind the steering wheel, which are responsible for manual gear shifting in the gasoline version. Among the amenities stated are climate control, power windows and push-button engine start.

Each copy of the SV Rover is made to order and can be supplemented with this or that equipment at the request of the client, so the final price can greatly exceed $1.5 million. Meanwhile, on the American market there are much more budget custom pseudo-Defenders — for example, from Legend Motor for $250,000.
