SARATOV, February 18 One child was injured, another 20 people were evacuated from a burning hostel in Saratov, the regional head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
The department received a report of a fire in a house at 64 Millerovskaya Street at 1.28 (0.28 Moscow time).
“A room was burning on the second floor of a five-story corridor-type building. The fire area was 12 square meters, and heavy smoke was created in the house. Firefighters organized the rescue and evacuation of people. In total, 20 people were rescued, including three children. People were taken out from the upper floors at with the help of rescue devices, they were lowered down a manual three-legged ladder, rescue ropes, and also using an articulated lift… There were no deaths as a result of the fire. A girl born in 2009 was injured and was hospitalized with poisoning from combustion products,» the press service of the headquarters told reporters.
The cause of the fire is being established, the department added.
As the region's Minister of Health Oleg Kostin reported on his Telegram channel, the victim was hospitalized at the regional children's clinical hospital. “Doctors have taken all necessary measures to save the child. Thanks to the coordinated actions of emergency doctors and the regional children’s hospital, the teenager’s life is currently not in danger,” he wrote.
The regional prosecutor’s office in the Telegram channel notes that the department is conducting an investigation into the fire in the dormitory.
«According to preliminary data… the control panel received information about heavy smoke in room 16 of building 64 on Millerovskaya Street Saratov. Residents of the hostel were evacuated in a timely manner. The issue of taking response measures will be considered based on the results of the inspection,» the message says .
