MAGNITOGORSK, February 19, Vlad Zhukov. Figure Skating Federation of Austria submitted to the congress of the International Skating Union (ISU) a proposal to cancel the qualifying round at the World Championships, a source familiar with the situation said.
The decision to return the qualifying round to the World Championship competition program from the 2024/25 season was made at the previous ISU Congress in the summer of 2022. At the same time, as noted in the Austrian proposal, this decision will entail additional costs for organizing and holding competitions, and for athletes — for accommodation and the need to change plane tickets in case of failure to qualify. Instead, the Austrians propose maintaining the current format of the competition.
In addition, the Netherlands proposed introducing an additional fine for falling from elements during rental. In addition to negative ratings for the quality of execution of an element (GOE), it is proposed to reduce the base cost of an element with a drop of 50%.
According to information, these proposals were included in the agenda of the ISU Congress. The meeting of the main body of the ISU will be held in Las Vegas from June 10 to 14.
