MOSCOW, February 24 Russian military wins in conflict in Ukraine, which could lose even larger territories, American historian Mary Sarotte said on air on a talk show on the German television channel Das Erste.
“
"The acute problem is not that the conflict has reached the point where he will stop. Now the Russians are winning it, they are approaching the West, so if we cannot provide Kiev with weapons, Ukraine may lose,” she noted.
The historian offered Kiev an option for ending the hostilities, which for him may sound “oppressive” — the division of Ukraine, parts of which will remain with Russia. She believes that this is how the country can preserve what it still has.
“
“It’s not ideal, but among the bad options that are possible today, I think it’s a tolerable option,” pointed out Sarotte.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that there are now no prerequisites for the situation in Ukraine to transition to a peaceful direction, the absolute priority for Russia is to achieve the goals of the special operation, at the moment this is only possible through military means. At the same time, Moscow indicated that it was ready for negotiations, but Kyiv introduced a ban on them at the legislative level.
