The death of Alexei Navalny in IK-3 in Kharp became known on February 16. The politician’s mother, Lyudmila, was able to see her son’s body only on the evening of February 21. The medical report she was shown indicated “natural causes” of death.
Navalny’s body was given to his mother only on February 24. Before this, investigators blackmailed her and demanded that she hold a secret funeral.
According to FBK director Ivan Zhdanov, they told the politician’s mother that “Troekurovskoe cemetery is in no way suitable for funerals.” After this, Navalnaya named the Khovanskoye cemetery and suggested several halls for farewell, but the Investigative Committee “did not agree on them,” explaining that the funeral should be held “quietly,” “in a family setting.”
