A St. Petersburg resident was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in the case of preparing an explosion in the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Stavropol

The Southern District Military Court sentenced St. Petersburg resident Alexander Zhuravlev to four and a half years in a maximum security colony in the case of preparing an explosion in the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Stavropol. Mediazona was informed about this by the press service of the court.

Zhuravlev was found guilty in the case of preparation for a terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code, paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code). The St. Petersburg resident will spend the first two years of his sentence in prison.

The press release notes that the defendant “actively contributed to the investigation of the crime.”

According to investigators, on January 15, 2023 last year, Zhuravlev arrived in Stavropol, where he “decided to commit a terrorist act.”

An “unidentified person” contacted him via messenger and introduced himself as an employee of the State Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine. Zhuravlev agreed to cooperate with him, the prosecution alleged, and purchased “components necessary for the manufacture of a homemade incendiary device, which he kept in a rented apartment.”

The press service of the court added that on January 18, Zhuravlev “selected an object for criminal encroachment” — the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Stavropol, photographed it and shot a video, took screenshots from the maps and sent them to his interlocutor. At the same time, the St. Petersburg resident was detained by FSB officers.
