A serviceman from Buryatia was sentenced to 8 years in prison and a fine in cases of desertion and forgery of a driver’s license

The Ulan-Ude Garrison Military Court sentenced serviceman Andrei Shulgin to eight years in a maximum security colony and a fine of 80 thousand rubles in the case of desertion and forgery of documents. This was reported by the press service of the court.

Shulgin was found guilty of forging a driver's license (part 3 of article 327 of the Criminal Code), as well as two episodes of desertion, one of them during the period of mobilization (parts 1 and 3 of article 338 UK). The verdict was announced on March 11, as follows from the case file.

According to investigators, the serviceman decided not to take the exam to obtain a driver’s license, so he bought a fake document. Traffic police officers established this in November last year by checking Shulgin’s ID.

After June 2022, the man stopped showing up for work. As the security forces found out, he lived in different localities of Buryatia and worked without official employment. Shulgin did this “not wanting to fulfill the duties of military service, with the goal of completely avoiding its completion,” the court added.

The serviceman was detained only in August 2023 — by that time, Vladimir Putin’s decree on mobilization was almost in effect year.
