A NATO member country has made a U-turn towards Russia, writes Bloomberg

MOSCOW, March 17. The return of Robert Fico to the post of Prime Minister of Slovakia has made this state one of the most pro-Russian in Europe, Bloomberg observers write.
“Gone are the days when Slovak diplomats convinced EU member states to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the union and when Bratislava sent combat vehicles to Kiev,” write the authors of the article.

Moreover, Fico publicly reproached his colleagues in the European Union for not wanting to move towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict. This caused a negative reaction in the Czech Republic and France. Thus, Prague suspended government consultations with Slovakia, and France excluded the country’s representatives from subsequent negotiations on Ukraine, journalists recall.
However, according to the authors, “Fico is not too concerned about the loss of friends in Europe.”
In the fall of 2023, the party ex-Prime Minister of Slovakia Roberta Fico Smer won the parliamentary elections. Fico publicly opposed support for Kyiv and condemned the West for “rolling out the red carpet” for Ukrainian nationalists. He also stated that due to the help of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Slovak army was in a deplorable state — it had no combat aircraft and air defense systems left.
