The European Union imposed sanctions due to the murder of Alexei Navalny in custody in Yamal. The list included the regional governor Dmitry Artyukhov, two colonies, Yamal penal colony-3 and Vladimir penal colony-6, and fourteen judges, including the chairman of the Moscow City Court Mikhail Ptitsyn.

In addition to the colonies themselves and their leadership, sanctions were imposed against senior officials of the Federal Penitentiary Service, the Ministry of Justice and the FSB.

Among them is Deputy Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Valery Boyarinev, who, with his discord, limited Navalny’s rights in the colony. Soon after the death of the oppositionist, Putin awarded him the rank of general. The United States also imposed sanctions against Boyarinev.

The list also included the main investigator in the cases against Alexei Navalny and his associates, Roman Vidyukov. After the murder of the oppositionist it became known that Vidyukov was promoted to the position of deputy head of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee.

Among the sanctioned judges are judges of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow Natalia Dudar, who “gave permission for searches and wiretapping” of Navalny’s associates, and Evgeniy Nikolaev, who in October 2023 sent the politician’s lawyers to a pre-trial detention center.

There is also a judge from Khimki, Elena Morozova, who immediately after Navalny’s return in January 2021 extended his detention, and a judge from Kovrov, Dmitry Samoilov, who regularly rejected Navalny’s claims against the Vladimir IK-6.

There is also a judge from Khimki, Elena Morozova.
