UN, March 23 Voting on the draft resolution of the non-permanent members of the Security Council The UN, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for the month of Ramadan, has been postponed from Saturday to Monday at 10.00 (17.00 Moscow time), sources in the Security Council said.
On Friday, Russia and China blocked the adoption of the American project on Gaza, since it did not contain a requirement for a ceasefire in the enclave. Algeria was also against the document. Eleven countries voted in favor of the resolution. Guyana abstained.
“Voting is now scheduled for Monday at 10:00,” the agency’s interlocutor said. Two more confirmed this information.
Unlike the American one, the draft resolution of Algeria, Guyana, Malta, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Switzerland «demands an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan, respected by all parties, which would lead to permanent sustainable ceasefire.»
The text of the non-permanent members of the Security Council also demands the immediate and without preconditions release of all hostages. The draft emphasizes the need to urgently increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Russia and China expressed support for this draft resolution.
Previously, the United States has repeatedly blocked actions of the Security Council that would interfere with the implementation of Israeli military plans in the Gaza Strip. In particular, since the beginning of the Israeli operation in the enclave, Washington has vetoed resolutions calling for a ceasefire three times.
