The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of 11 Ukrainian drones over the Rostov region. This is stated in the department’s telegram channel. The local telegram channel “This is Rostov” published a video with flashes and sounds of explosions in the Novocherkassk region GRES.
Governor Vasily Golubev said that “a fire occurred at the transformer substation of the Novocherkassk State District Power Plant, which was promptly extinguished by the station workers.” According to him, no one was injured.
Due to the fire, the Tikhoretskaya and Rostov high-voltage lines were automatically switched off, and two power units of the state district power plant (there are nine in total) were temporarily taken out of operation, he added. Power supply to consumers has now been restored.
Novocherkassk State District Power Plant is one of the largest thermal power plants in the south of Russia. In June 2023, a fire occurred at the power plant. The Ministry of Emergency Situations then said that “external influence is excluded” and the explosion occurred due to the “emission of a gas-air mixture” during repairs.
