MADRID, March 25 Spain's National Court of Justice has suspended a decision to block the messaging app Telegram in the kingdom as a precautionary measure, it said on Monday the legal authority.
“The judge of the National Court is suspending the execution of the decision to block Telegram pending a report from the General Information Commissioner,” the press release says.
It is clarified that Judge Santiago Pedras decided to request information about the characteristics of the application, as well as what impact the temporary suspension of Telegram could have on users.
Previously, Pedras ordered telecom and Internet access operators to temporarily suspend Telegram as part of criminal proceedings related to the ongoing violation of intellectual property rights against the owners of various channels created on the social network .
It was reported that the decision to block Telegram was made as a result of a complaint filed by media companies Mediaset, Antena 3 and Movistar. Therefore, the application had to be blocked while the investigation continues.
