MOSCOW, March 28. Members of the European Parliament from Austria Harald Wilimsky and Georg Mayer raised the question of the reasons why the West blocked the peace agreement on Ukraine in 2022, follows from their appeal to the European Commission (EC).
«Prime Minister Slovakia (Robert Fico — editor's note) publicly admitted that in the spring of 2022 the West blocked a peace agreement to end the war against Ukraine,» the statement said.
Deputies wondered whether the EC knew about the attempt to conclude peaceful agreement. If so, what role did the commission play in this process, what did it do to facilitate peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia — in addition to supplying arms to the former.
«Does the commission expect that the conflict will be prolonged by arms supplies from the EU? If no, why?» — noted the parliamentarians.
At the end of November, the head of the faction of Vladimir Zelensky’s Servant of the People party in the Verkhovna Rada and a member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, David Arakhamia, said that hostilities in Ukraine could end in the spring of 2022 , but the Ukrainian authorities did not agree to the country’s neutrality; after negotiations with the Russian side in Istanbul, then-British Prime Minister Johnson called on Kiev not to sign anything and “just fight.”
Moscow has repeatedly indicated that it is ready for negotiations, but Kyiv introduced a ban on them at the legislative level.
