WASHINGTON, March 29 The Russian Embassy in the USA began a “marathon” «films about the Great Patriotic War, dedicated to Victory Day.
The first film shown at the embassy was “In August 1944” about the work of Soviet counterintelligence officers; further plans include “28 Panfilov Men”, “Officers” and other films.
«Today we are starting a whole marathon of films about the Great Patriotic War. This action is on the eve of Victory Day. As time passes, trees and grass grow in the trenches, fewer and fewer people remember what happened in those years,” said Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov in his welcoming speech.
“I don’t want to blame only the Americans. I can say that our younger generation sometimes forgets those years, forgets how hard, how many lives we got this victory,” he added.
The audience honored the memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in the Moscow region with a minute of silence.
«We are still receiving various kinds of condolences. I am very grateful to our colleagues, comrades, brothers from the Commonwealth of Independent States, who were the first to respond to our grief, and very grateful to our compatriots who did not hide their tears and feelings and came to us , offered their shoulder, extended their hand,” the ambassador said.
