The world's largest brick manufacturer left Russia

Wienerberger waved goodbye

The Austrian concern Wienerberger, one of the largest manufacturers of ceramic building blocks and bricks in the world, sold two factories in Russia, located in Tatarstan and the Vladimir region.< /p> Wienerberger waved goodbye

The Wienerberger concern opened its first plant in Russia for brick production in 2004 in the Vladimir region. The second enterprise on the territory of Kurkachi in Tatarstan was launched a few years later — in 2008. The total design capacity of both plants is 450 million standard bricks per year (a standard unit is considered to be a standard brick measuring 250x120x65 mm) and, according to experts, is comparable to the average monthly production of ceramic bricks in the country as a whole.

The buyer of two factories became the company of Bryansk businessman Alexei Filin, who already has assets in the construction industry. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price. As practice shows, usually foreign companies that decide to leave the Russian market under pressure from Western sanctions sell assets at a discount of 30–50% of the market value.
