MOSCOW, April 2 «A Just Russia — Patriots — For Truth» introduced a bill to the State Duma banning foreign agents from being elected to government bodies at all levels, the document is available.
The authors of the initiative were the leader of the SRZP Sergei Mironov and the first deputy leader of the faction Dmitry Gusev. According to Mironov, quoted in the party’s message, currently foreign agents have the right to nominate themselves to participate in elections, while they are required to comply with a number of restrictions imposed by law — indicate their status as a foreign agent in a statement of consent to run, in campaign and information materials.
«»In accordance with the bill, an individual included in the register of foreign agents does not have the right to be elected to federal government bodies, government bodies of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, or local government bodies. Thus, a person included in the register of foreign agents will not be able to to be elected as the President of the Russian Federation, a deputy of the State Duma, the highest official of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, a deputy of the legislative assembly of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, a deputy of a representative body of local self-government,” follows from the explanatory note to the draft law.
As Mironov noted, given that a significant part of the persons included in the register of foreign agents currently live abroad, take anti-Russian positions, and support, including financially, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it is necessary to limit the voting rights of this category of persons .
«Foreign agents receive funding from abroad, live there. At the same time, they take anti-Russian positions, support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including financially. Whose interests will they set aside if elected as a deputy or governor, I think , there is no need to explain. We don’t need such pests. We need a barrier,” Gusev is quoted as saying in a press release.
