MOSCOW, April 3 Chairman of the Council of Judges of Russia Viktor Momotov called attention to detail an advantage of a woman heading the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
On Monday, the Higher Qualification Board of Judges (HQJC) unanimously recommended the candidacy of Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Irina Podnosova for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
““A woman at the head of the Supreme Court is even better, she is more attentive to details,” Momotov said.
He added that Podnosova has extensive work experience and the specifics of her activity “have long been known to her.”
Podnosova is the only applicant who has submitted documents for the position. The VKKS announced the opening of a vacant position on March 1 after the death of Vyacheslav Lebedev, who had headed the RF Armed Forces since 1991.
The commission under the President of the Russian Federation for the preliminary consideration of issues of appointment of judges and termination of their powers remains to render its verdict. If Podnosova's candidacy is approved, the president will make a corresponding submission to the Federation Council, which, in turn, will have to make a decision by a majority vote.
Podnosova graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Leningrad State University named after Zhdanov in 1975. She has been working as a judge since 1990, in 2020 she headed the Judicial Collegium for Economic Disputes of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
