The Chechen authorities allowed musicians to perform only works whose speed is no less than 80 and no more than 116 beats per minute (BPM). This was announced by the Minister of Culture of the Republic Musa Dadaev, whose words were quoted by the Grozny-inform agency.
According to the official, this measure was agreed upon with the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. On behalf of the latter, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic intends to check which musical, vocal and choreographic works correspond to the “Chechen mentality and musical rhythm.”
Meduza notes that the tempo of 80 beats per minute is typical for relatively slow compositions. For example, the song “Without a Fight” by the Ukrainian group “Okean Elzy” sounds at this tempo. The tempo is 116 beats per minute — the song “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams.
Most musical genres do not fall into the range from 80 to 116 beats per minute: trance tempo — 130-160 BPM, techno — 120-150 BPM, samba — 50-52 BPM, rumba — 25-27 BPM, waltz — 28-30 BPM.
