MOSCOW, April 8 The Russian government has approved a voluntary procedure for branding jewelry marked with identification means and intended for sale outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), according to the website Cabinet
«»Approve the draft federal law «On Amendments to Articles 12 and 13 of the Federal Law «On Precious Metals and Precious Stones» and submit it to the State Duma in the prescribed manner,» says the website.
In In March, the Russian Ministry of Finance proposed making branding of jewelry when selling it to countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union voluntary, provided that a two-dimensional barcode is applied to it.
Currently, the law “On Precious Metals and Precious Stones” establishes that jewelry and other products made from domestically produced precious metals and jewelry and other products made from precious metals imported into the Russian Federation for sale are subject to testing and stamping with a state hallmark.As noted in the explanatory note to the bill, a physical mark on a piece of jewelry is perceived by potential foreign buyers as a defect and reduces competitiveness of Russian jewelry.
