The government of the Kurgan region reported that experts do not rule out that the water level in the Tobol River will exceed the record levels of 30 years ago. During the flood in 1994, in the Kurgan area, indicators from 9 meters to 10 meters 70 centimeters were recorded.
Data were presented during a meeting of the emergency commission by the head of the Kurgan Central State Medical University-Branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Ural UGMS» Natalya Astafieva. She stated that to date, only water from the Uy River has come to the city of Kurgan — after being discharged from Chelyabinsk reservoirs. But new volumes of water are expected to arrive in the near future. Thus, the press service of the regional government, with reference to Astafieva, stated that “the water that was discharged from Kazakhstan and went through Zverinogolovskoye” currently “has not yet reached Kurgan.”
“It will reach Kurgan in the near future,» the message says.
Local residents were once again called upon to evacuate immediately.
Previously, the Presidential Envoy to UrFU Vladimir Yakushev said that floods in Russian regions were aggravated by the actions of neighboring Kazakhstan , which may not have agreed with the Russian side on the volumes of discharges from its reservoirs. The Ministry of Water Resources of Kazakhstan denied this statement and insisted that the Kazakh side has been continuously informing Russia about decisions made on water discharges along the Tobol, starting from April 2.
