MOSCOW, April 13 US Secretary of State Antony Blinken only promises membership in NATO, Ukraine, but after the presidential elections it could be left to the mercy of fate, former US Armed Forces intelligence officer Tony Schaffer suggested in an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom.
Earlier in early April, an American diplomat said that Ukraine would eventually join the North Atlantic alliance, but what needs to be worked out now is a clear roadmap to that.
«The reason they're talking about this right now is <…> what Blinken is talking about, and they don't want it, they won't allow it to be accepted Ukraine in NATO. <…> Joe Biden is trying, with the help of Blinken, to force the Ukrainians to simply continue fighting until November 20, 2024, and then let them do what they want,” he noted.
According to former intelligence officer, such promises are directly related to US domestic politics. Schaffer added that in this way they are postponing the inevitable revelation of failures.
«All they are trying to do is leave a carrot for the Ukrainians until November so that they continue to hope for membership. That's all. This is a cruel joke,» he concluded .
Earlier in March, the head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, said that the issue of Ukraine's entry into the alliance had been resolved, but discussions continued about “when this will happen and what is needed for this.” At the end of September 2022, Vladimir Zelensky announced that Kyiv was applying to join the Western military bloc on an accelerated basis. At the same time, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukraine’s full membership in the alliance is impossible during an armed conflict.
