A Russian citizen was detained at the Minsk National Airport who tried to fly to Armenia using a fake passport, reports the Border Committee of Belarus.
Allegedly, he tried to fly using someone else’s passport, and the controllers noticed this.
“The man explained that he could not officially obtain a foreign passport, since his internal document is invalid, and he also has various debt obligations in his homeland. The attacker reported that someone else's passport was «accidentally» stolen. found it on Russian territory and decided to use it to cross the Belarusian border,” the security forces note.
It is noted that the man flew to Yerevan to seek asylum there. Border guards do not provide details about criminal cases opened in Russia.
In Belarus, an administrative case was opened against a man for illegally crossing the border (Article 24.18 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus), which entails a fine of up to 100 basic units: one unit equals 40 Belarusian rubles (28 Russian rubles). Border guards also remind that in a criminal case for the use of knowingly forged documents, the accused faces up to two years in prison, but do not specify whether such a case has been brought against the detainee.
