Journalist Sergei Karelin, who collaborated with AP and Deutsche Welle, was arrested in the Murmansk region in the case of connections with FBK

Journalist Sergei Karelin was detained and arrested in the Murmansk region, the Guardian and Associated Press write.

According to the Guardian, 41-year-old Karelin, who has Israeli citizenship, was detained on Friday, April 26. The newspaper adds that he worked, among other things, with the Associated Press and Deutsche Welle.

“The Associated Press is very concerned about the detention of Russian video journalist Sergei Karelin,” the agency said, adding that it was seeking additional information.

In addition, the Associated Press publishes photographs of Karelin in the judicial “aquarium”, without specifying which court in the Murmansk region they are talking about. Karelin was arrested yesterday, April 27. He is accused of extremism because, according to investigators, he collaborated with Alexei Navalny’s team.

It is not yet known which article we are talking about. At the same time, another journalist was arrested yesterday in Moscow – producer of the news service of the international agency Reuters Konstantin Gabov. He is accused of participating in an extremist community (Part 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). The press service statement claims that Gabov “took part in the preparation of photo and video materials for publication on the NavalnyLIVE YouTube channel.”

Before this, SotaVision journalist Antonina Favorskaya was also sent to pre-trial detention. She is accused of “collecting material, producing and editing videos and publications for FBK.”
