MOSCOW, April 29 Ukraine and the United States held the third round of negotiations on security guarantees for Kyiv, the office of Vladimir Zelensky reported.
Zelensky said on April 23 that Ukraine and the United States have begun working on an agreement on security guarantees.
«The head of the office of the head of state, Andrei Ermak, held the third round of negotiations with the United States to prepare for the conclusion of a bilateral security agreement… The parties substantively discussed the text of the draft agreement, noted significant progress in agreeing on the main provisions of the document and adjusted the algorithm for further actions «- says a message published on the website of Zelensky's office.
Ermak expressed hope that the agreement will lay “a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between Ukraine and the United States to strengthen the defense capability” of Kyiv.
At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries published a declaration in support of Ukraine. However, the security commitments mentioned in it do not provide for specific implementation deadlines, just like previous promises regarding Ukrainian membership in the alliance. Kiev hopes that “security guarantees” will be in place before the NATO summit in Washington in 2024.
