MOSCOW, May 1. Mandatory labeling of red and black caviar began in Russia — from May 1, producers, importers and distributors are required to apply the labeling code to all sturgeon and salmon caviar produced after this date, and provide information about the introduction of products into circulation into the labeling system.
The gradual introduction of labeling of red and black caviar began in the country in April 2024. As of April 25, 2024, more than 19 thousand participants in the trade were registered in the labeling system, including 834 manufacturers and importers. In total, more than 264 thousand marking codes were issued. 
“The level of industry readiness is high — even before the start of mandatory labeling requirements, more than 4.5 thousand units of products were put into circulation, which buyers could already find on store shelves,” commented the deputy general director of the operator of the “Honest Sign” labeling system — the Center for the Development of Prospective technologies (CRPT) Revaz Yusupov.
According to him, in cooperation with the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE), large-scale explanatory work was carried out for the caviar industry, and compensation was provided for 50% of the costs of labeling equipment . More than 60 manufacturers have used this program.
