In Vladivostok, the sea water turned bright orange. Photos and videos of an unusual natural phenomenon are posted on social networks by local residents.
Water of an unusual color was spotted in Fedorov Bay. As reported at the National Scientific Center for Marine Biology named after Zhirmunsky Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the reason for the coloring of the water was a massive bloom of algae — the dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans.
Mass development and bloom of noctiluca is typical for spring and summer, from April to July. This species is not toxic and dangerous to people and marine life, scientists explained.
