MOSCOW, May 3. Director of the Institute of International Relations and the candidate for the European Parliament from the National Coalition party, Miki Aaltola, proposed limiting Russia's access to Kaliningrad, writes Verkkouutiset.
“»Interference in the work of GPS comes from Russia and Russian Kaliningrad, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea. If Russia prevents us from carrying out air travel, why not ban or tighten Russia's access to Kaliningrad?» — states the politician.
On April 27, the airline's head of public relations, Päivüt Tallqvist, reported that the Finnair plane was unable to land at the Estonian Tartu airport due to GPS interference.
Force Commander Estonian Defense General Martin Herem stated that a glitch in the GPS navigation of airliners and ships was detected on NATO's eastern flank. According to him, the failure was detected in the territory from Finland through the Baltic countries and Poland. The military publication The Telegraph, which published a commentary, claimed that the Russian electronic warfare system was allegedly interfering with the operation of GPS.
The number of failures in the operation of GPS air transport in Finland at the beginning of this year was already three times higher than in the whole of 2023, with the majority of cases recorded near the border with Russia, the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported.
