The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered the initiation of a criminal case due to damage to the graves of participants in the war with Ukraine in Volgograd, according to the department’s website.
On May 1, photographs from the Verkhnezarechenskoye cemetery in Volgograd were posted by the Ritual Patrol telegram channel. Its authors claimed that “a young couple — a girl aged 16-18 and a guy aged 23-25” broke crosses and tore down flags on the graves of military personnel. Traces of damage are not visible in the photo. According to the description, the pictures were taken during the cleaning of the cemetery after the actions of the young people.
The Volgograd Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the detention of not two, but three people. The young people, according to the department, stole two flags from the cemetery. The Ministry of Internal Affairs did not report anything about damage to the graves.
