Juventus footballer will be tried for drunk driving

MOSCOW, May 3. Italian Juventus footballer Daniele Rugani will appear in court in Turin on charges of drunk driving, La Stampa reports.
The defender was detained by the police on the night of July 21, 2023. Two breath tests showed Rugani's blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
Initially, the athlete was fined five thousand euros, which would allow him to avoid further legal proceedings and clear his criminal record in two years. However, Rugani refused to pay the fine and on May 2, through his lawyers, demanded that he be assigned community service in return.

As the media learned, the court rejected Rugani's request because the request was made after the due date. Now the Juventus footballer faces a trial involving witnesses and technical experts. The first hearing is scheduled for May 23.

Rugani is 29 years old. His contract with Juventus expires on June 30, 2024. This season he has played 16 matches in Serie A and the Italian Cup, scoring three goals.
