MADRID, May 5. Hundreds of people took part in the “Immortal Regiment” action, which is taking place in the Spanish capital for the ninth time, the correspondent reported.

"Every year I try to take part in this action. It is very important to me to honor the memory of my two grandfathers. One of them, Ivan Krasnov, died in Brest on June 22, 1941, and the second in 1942 on the Kursk Bulge. They were real heroes who gave their lives for us,” said Irina Krasnova, who joined the “Immortal Regiment” together with his daughter.
The march in Madrid began next to the Atocha train station, the historical symbol of the city, from where the gathered people headed towards one of the central squares of the capital. Participants in the action carried portraits of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War, as well as various banners and flags.
Among those present were people of all ages, ready to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for peace.
The event, held to the songs of the war years, attracted the attention of both local residents and tourists in the city. No incidents or violations of public order were recorded along the entire route. After the end of the event, the participants together began to sing songs from the times of the Great Patriotic War, dance and read poetry.
«Immortal Regiment» is a nationwide event that is held in Russia and some other countries near and far abroad to perpetuate the memory of participants and victims of the Great Patriotic War. It was first held on May 9, 2012 in Tomsk on the initiative of local journalists, and in 2013 it became all-Russian.
