ST. PETERSBURG, May 23. A nineteen-year-old manager of a pick-up point in St. Petersburg replaced smartphones with cheap counterfeits and thus managed to illegally enrich himself by more than 1.5 million rubles, the press service of the regional GUMVD of the Russian Federation reported.
“As a result of a complex of operational-search activities, employees of the criminal investigation department of the main headquarters detained a 19-year-old resident of the Vyborg district of the city, the manager of an order issuing point,” the message says.
< br />The police found that between mid-March and May 13, 2024, 11 iPhones ordered at the pick-up point were replaced with non-original goods, placed in gadget boxes and issued for return. At the same time, official products were stolen. Thus, the marketplace suffered damage in the amount of 1,597,413 rubles.

“During a search at the defendant's residence address, police found and seized 2 mobile phones, 18 bank cards, 41 SIM cards, 7 packages of SIM cards, a laptop and 3 non-original smartphones in iPhone case,” added the press service of the GUMVD.
A criminal case has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
According to a source close to law enforcement agencies in the region, we are talking about a pick-up point of the Ozon marketplace.
