In St. Petersburg, SOBR officers of the Russian Guard shot and killed during an assault a local resident who had earlier opened fire on the police. This was reported by Fontanka and TV channel 78.RU; a press release from the security forces states that the St. Petersburg resident “was neutralized.”
According to the Russian Guard, the deceased resisted, after which the security forces used weapons — in particular, stun grenades. Shortly before this, a man barricaded himself in his apartment in the Nevsky district and fired at the security forces located near his house. As 78.RU writes, after the end of the assault, the wounded St. Petersburger was discovered by security forces and doctors — doctors fought for the man’s life for about 20 minutes, but he soon died.
Izvestia writes that the deceased’s name is Lechi Alkhanov — he was 59 years old, he is from Chechnya. Telegram channels “Mash on the Moika” and “Caution, News” wrote that he had previously been repeatedly tried in criminal cases — in particular, under articles of illegal possession of weapons, beatings and threats to kill.
The arrival of security forces to Alkhanov’s house, as reported by TV channel 78.RU, is connected with the man’s conflict with city resident Alexander Klimanskikh. As Klimanskikh himself told reporters, while working as a salesman in a local fishing tackle store, he made a remark to Alkhanov about smoking.
Later, in the bookmaker’s office, the men again had a conflict, after which Alkhanov took a pistol and shot at the Klimanskys several times. “He met me on the stairs and shot me 3 or 4 times. I hit him in the head, the bullet went tangentially,” the victim said. Later, he called the police to the entrance on Narodnaya Street, where the attacker lives, and Alkhanov himself began shooting at the security forces.
As 78.RU reported, police officers negotiated with the man, but this did not help. The St. Petersburg resident said that he “wouldn’t surrender alive” and opened fire from the balcony, the TV channel wrote.
