ST. PETERSBURG, June 6 A new domain zone spb.rf was launched in Russia, the corporate registrar Ru-Center and the Roscongress Foundation spoke about this at the St. Petersburg International economic forum 2024.

In honor of the opening of the new domain zone, Ru-Center awarded the first domains to St. Petersburg and to the Roscongress Foundation — city.spb.rf and forum.spb.rf,” reported Ru-Center.

As the company noted, this is the second Russian regional zone written in Russian, the first was the domain for Moscow. The official registrar of the domain zone spb.rf. Ru-Center is in charge, and the Fund for Assistance to the Development of Internet Technologies and Infrastructure (FAITID) is responsible for the technical launch of the zone.
«The Roscongress Foundation has many connections with St. Petersburg. The Foundation's history began here, as the organizer of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, whose website is still in the .spb.ru domain zone. Today, the geography of our events is much wider, but St. Petersburg is still a key point on the event map of the Roscongress Foundation. We are grateful for the honor of receiving one of the first names in the Cyrillic domain zone of St. Petersburg and we wish that it will be filled with new successful websites,» said Alexander Stuglev, Chairman of the Board and Director of the Roscongress Foundation.
As Andrey Kuzmichev, General Director of RU-CENTER and President of FAITID, added, the opening of the Cyrillic domain zone is an expected event.
«The existing Latin zone of the spb.ru region is popular and currently has over 20 thousand domains. The appearance of a zone in the native language opens up new opportunities for selecting beautiful Internet addresses for local businesses,» he added.
