MOSCOW, June 14. Konstantin Bogomolov, appointed artistic director of the Roman Viktyuk Theater, at a meeting with the troupe noticed “interest and hope” in the eyes of the artists. The director spoke about this in an exclusive interview.
According to him, the conversation was constructive: “I tried to convey to the team my position. My optimism. And my uncompromisingness in the construction of the theater. I saw interest and hope in the eyes of the actors.”
Bogomolov noted that the managers who came with him at the Roman Viktyuk Theater were received cordially, without resistance or misunderstanding.
“There will be unified and coordinated work for the benefit of the audience and employees. At the meeting, I said a working principle that is very important to me: theater, like any creative endeavor, is a space where you have to prove yourself again and again every morning, where the merits of previous years do not work . Here you have to constantly pedal, otherwise this bike will fall,” said the artistic director.
Speaking about preserving the memory of the theater's founder Roman Viktyuk, Bogomolov emphasized that «memory should be preserved in the heart, and one should live in the present and the future.» «Not to go over past successes like beads, calming one's ego, but, remembering teachers, traditions, the best, to move forward. And one more thing. A teacher, a master is not a banner. Not a badge on a lapel. But responsibility. First of all, to oneself,» the director explained.
He cited Stanislavsky's attitude to work as an example: «I always tell my actors: Stanislavsky is great not for creating a «system», but for the fact that every few years he came to update his ideas, for the fact that until the end of his life he searched for the truth of stage existence, demanded restlessness from his actors. Reread his works — even as an old man he painfully doubted, passionately argued with his former self. The famous «Find and do not give up!» — that is what should be on the facade of any theater.»
