The Sverdlovsk Regional Court received the case of Russian and US citizen Ksenia Karelina (Havana) under the article of high treason, Mediazona noted. The first meeting is scheduled for June 20.
The 33-year-old Yekaterinburg resident, who moved to Los Angeles, returned to Russia at the beginning of 2024. As lawyer Mikhail Mushailov said, an iPhone was “seized” from her at the border, which the security forces “opened using technical means.”
According to the human rights project “First Department”, they discovered a transfer of $51.8 to the Ukrainian foundation Razom for Ukraine, made on February 24, 2022 from her American account.
The foundation, founded by the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States, began collecting money for humanitarian aid and equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including walkie-talkies and drones, shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
A month after checking the phone, Ksenia Karelina was arrested for 14 days under the pretext that she was swearing on the street (Article 20.1 of the Administrative Code). The girl herself denied this in court. After administrative arrest, she was detained on charges of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code) and sent to a pre-trial detention center.
