YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, June 17 The fifth festival of theaters of the Far East started on Monday in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, it was opened by the play-concert “The Birth of Man” with with the participation of the artistic director of the Theater of Nations Evgeny Mironov, journalists were told at the Sakhalin International Theater Center named after A.P. Chekhov (Chekhov Center).
The opening performance was held in an open-air format on the square in front of the building of the Regional Government House. The production of the artistic director of the Moscow Praktika Theater Marina Brusnikina is an experiment in which Maxim Gorky's stories “The Passion of the Face” and “The Birth of Man” to the music of Edvard Grieg are read by Evgeny Mironov and theater and film actress Alexandra Ursulyak. The musical part of the evening is provided by the folk ensemble “Komon” and the chamber composition of the Symphony Orchestra of the North-West of Russia under the baton of conductor Alexandra Chopik.

“It is symbolic that the People’s Artist of Russia, artistic director of the Theater of Nations Evgeny Mironov, the man thanks to whom this festival appeared in the Far East, is launching the festival on the island land,” noted the press service of the Sakhalin theater.

On the opening day of the festival, a street photo exhibition of the project “Artist. Theater. Island” began working in the park near the Chekhov Center. According to the organizers, the festival will last two weeks, during which time viewers will see the 10 best performances of theaters in the Far Eastern Federal District, which were selected by an expert council.
The regional festival of theaters of the Far East from 2019 to 2023 was held in Khabarovsk, and this year it moved to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The festival is held with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the government of the Sakhalin region as part of the federal program for the development of theatrical art in the Far East. The head of the program is Evgeny Mironov.
