The ruble is growing steadily against the yuan for the fourth session in a row

MOSCOW, June 18 The ruble exchange rate on Tuesday is steadily growing against the yuan for the fourth trading session in a row, updating its highs for the year against the Chinese currency, according to data from the Moscow Exchange.
The yuan exchange rate for “tomorrow” calculations at 17.07 Moscow time falls by 24 kopecks, to 11.72 rubles. Earlier on Tuesday, the yuan hit a new minimum since June last year, falling to 11.68 rubles.
The volume of trading in yuan for “tomorrow” settlements by this time is 107.5 billion rubles.

To guide the dollar exchange rate, you can use the value of the one-day (with auto-extension) settlement futures for the dollar to ruble exchange rate traded on the Moscow Exchange. It now costs 87.47 rubles (-0.6%).

The ruble adds to the yuan

The ruble exchange rate continues to strengthen on Tuesday, while the yuan, the main currency on the Moscow Exchange, has been weakening for the fourth session in a row and has reached new lows since June last year.

“The tax period factor is unlikely to be the only reason for such a sharp strengthening of the ruble. Although, of course, the main income of exporters in foreign currency is denominated in yuan. Infrastructural risks associated with the recent announcement of sanctions against the Moscow Exchange and NCC may provoke many yuan holders to get rid of them, which puts additional pressure on its exchange rate to the ruble,” comments Dmitry Babin from BCS World of Investments.
By 17.05 Moscow time, the price of oil grew by 0.6%, to $84.7 per barrel of Brent grade. The dollar index (the exchange rate of the dollar against a basket of currencies of six countries — trading partners of the United States) decreased by 0.1%, to 105.2 points.

Forecasts

The continued strengthening of the ruble, on the one hand, is due to the tough monetary policy of the Central Bank, on the other hand, the recovery in oil prices and increased difficulties in settlements between importers and foreign counterparties due to new restrictions, says Maxim Fedosov from Management Company Pervaya.

«Against this background, the demand for foreign currency is declining. Also, in the near future, the Russian currency will be supported by the approaching peak of the June tax period,» he adds.
The range of possible fluctuations in the yuan by the end of the week looks quite wide: from 11.5 rubles to 12 rubles, and it is possible to go beyond these boundaries, says Babin from BCS World of Investments.
