Assembly of Exeed crossovers will soon begin at the former Mercedes-Benz plant in Russia

The first to roll off the assembly line at the plant in the Moscow region will be the large SUV – VX. Its assembly will begin next month.

The Mercedes-Benz brand stopped producing cars at a plant in the Moscow region in the spring of 2022: we recall that previously the E-Class, GLC, GLE and GLS rolled off the assembly line. The Avtodom Group of Companies became the new owner of the Russian assets of the German company; the deal was completed in April 2023. As a result, the car dealer became the owner of not only the enterprise in Esipovo, but also the official Russian distributor, the corporate bank and the local leasing subsidiary. According to the deal, Mercedes has the right to buy back the Russian business at market price over the next few years.

At the beginning of this year, it became known that the new owner of the Moscow Automobile Plant intends to assemble up to 30 thousand cars by the end of 2024. True, Avtodom’s partner has not yet been officially revealed. According to Kommersant, its role will be played by the Chinese company Chery, which owns the Exeed brand.

Note that cars of this brand, which belongs to the premium segment, are also represented on the Russian market. So, now the local line includes the RX cross-coupe, as well as two versions of the VX, TXL and LX crossovers. Now these cars are imported to the Russian Federation.

According to the publication's sources, serial production of the large crossover Exeed VX will soon begin on the assembly line of the plant in Esipovo (what kind of model will this model be, not specified). It is also reported that the start of SUV production is scheduled for next month, and the shipment of the first batch of locally assembled cars to dealers is scheduled for August.

What the price of locally assembled Exeed VX will be is still unknown. According to the official Russian website of the brand, the current crossover can now be bought for at least 4,190,000 rubles, and for the updated version of VX they are asking for at least 5,700,000 rubles.

According to Avtodom General Director Andrei Olkhovsky, agreements have already been reached on several “parallel projects regarding the development of the plant.” He added that the list of partners includes not only the Chery group, however, the head of the Russian company did not talk about others. He also noted that in the future the company will simultaneously produce approximately four to six models.

It was previously reported that the Russian manufacturer intends to undertake obligations to localize some of the car components – within the framework of a special investment contract with the Ministry industry and trade of the Russian Federation. The company plans to focus on electronic components as well as parts for control systems. The list includes suspension, passive safety system and more.
