Olympic Games vice-champion Alexandra Trusova proves that life doesn't end with figure skating. Sports on the day of the 20th anniversary of the Russian Rocket examines the figure skater’s value system and talks about her long-awaited role as a mother.
Overcoming the first cognitive dissonance from the words “Alexandra Trusova will become a mother” seems impossible. How can this be a mom, she’s 15! She's a red-haired terminator, not a girl! She hasn’t finished her career yet, hasn’t won the Olympics!
Firstly, Sasha has really matured a lot even since the days of Olympian Cruella, not to mention Daenerys four years ago. Secondly, she once planned to stay in the sport until she was 22 years old. So in this respect it fell just a little short of my own expectations. True, the external environment did not live up to Sasha’s expectations — in 2024 everything is not the same as it was in 2019. Neither the international situation nor the state of health are conducive to Trusova returning to competitive ice.
Thirdly, Trusova first announced plans for three children — two girls and one boy — in an interview with Sport Express at the age of 15. Then her words were not taken seriously enough. Like, you’re still a child yourself, don’t think about stupid things, go play with dolls. That is, in sheepskin coats.
Sasha, even without prompting, competently managed her priorities. The plan was this: first figure skating, all quadruple jumps, all records, competition with men and the grand Olympics. And only then someday family. This plan partially came true, but Sasha can be sure that she did her best.
And yet Sasha's dream of early motherhood seems to be an exception. 20-year-old girls usually dream of a car, an apartment, a career, recognition, travel and all that stuff that needs to be achieved and achieved. Children, which take up a lot of resources, take up space on the shelf of long-delayed projects in this planning horizon.
But Sasha, if you look at it, already at the age of 17 had everything that others dream of. Career and professional title, status, apartment and car, several dogs, dozens of countries in the traveler’s passport. Try to surprise with something a person who performed at the Olympics, was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records, rotates at a speed of a hundred kilometers per hour and has been everywhere — from America to Australia. It’s as if Sasha has lived two previous lives, which is why the stimuli are different — the usual sources of dopamine and endorphin no longer excite her.
Perhaps her worldview was influenced by her own family. Sasha has two younger brothers, she always loved spending time with them and appreciated it the more the more she devoted herself to sports. In all the photographs with her brothers, she glows, although she is already one bright ray of sunshine.
Now that there is complete certainty in her personal life — Makar Ignatov proposed to Sasha — the likelihood of having children has become higher than ever. Pregnancy may limit Sasha’s performances for some time, but for a modern woman in a big city with mom and dad by her side, as well as nannies, nothing is impossible. It has been proven by two-time Olympic champion Tatyana Volosozhar that she recently gave birth to her third child almost without interruption from show production.
You just know, the day Sasha Trusova becomes a mother, childhood will officially end for many figure skating fans. But this is definitely not Sasha’s problem. The fans will cope with this, as has already happened when the eternally fifteen-year-old (in the public imagination) Yulia Lipnitskaya gave birth to a daughter. And that's great. Because it proves that after sports there is not just life — there is a new life.
