The Arbitration Court of the Perm Territory ordered the “Center of Historical Memory” to leave the premises in Perm. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Memorial Society.
Previously, this premises was rented from the city administration by the Perm Memorial. According to a court decision, the “Center of Historical Memory” must leave it and pay the authorities of Perm 83 thousand rubles towards the debt for two months’ rent.
As Natalya Agisheva, a member of the organization’s board, noted, the activities of the “Center for Historical Memory” became impossible after the arrest of its head, Alexander Chernyshov.
“Chernyshov spent more than 10 months in a pre-trial detention center and was sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment. Robert Latypov was arrested in absentia. The criminal case, searches and the forced departure of members of the organization made any communication and management of the organization impossible,” Agisheva told the authors of the telegram channel Society Memorial.
In April, the former head of the Center for Historical Memory, Alexander Chernyshov, was sentenced to three years probation in a case of smuggling of cultural property. He was detained on May 5, 2023 at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport and was first arrested for 15 days under the article of petty hooliganism (Article 20.1 of the Administrative Code), and then sent to a pre-trial detention center.
According to the security forces, Chernyshov and the ex-head of Perm Memorial Robert Latypov tried to take documents from the Memorial archive to Germany. The case against Latypov was separated into separate proceedings, he left Russia and was put on the wanted list, and was soon arrested in absentia.
