MOSCOW, July 8 The United States has completed the withdrawal of its military from the base in the capital of Niger, Niamey, Agence France-Presse reports, citing a joint communiqué of the two countries.
“The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Niger and the US Department of Defense announce that the withdrawal of American forces and equipment from the 101 air base in Niamey is now complete,” leads agency words from the communiqué.
It is noted that by September 15, the United States must also withdraw its forces from the city of Agadez in northern Niger.
According to the agency, 766 American troops have already left Niger.
Previously, the United States was faced with the problem of terminating military cooperation with Chad and Niger on the initiative of these countries. Former Pentagon analyst and retired US Air Force lieutenant Karen Kwiatkowski, commenting on these events, previously stated that such steps mark the end and failure of the US neo-colonial policy towards Africa.
The Niger and US authorities agreed to complete the withdrawal of US troops from this African country no later than September 15. Later, the Pentagon announced that part of the American contingent would be withdrawn from Chad. It was reported that the withdrawal would affect approximately 75 people and would be completed in the near future.
In total, according to available data, the number of US troops in Niger was about 1.1 thousand, in Chad — about a hundred.
