The new generation Volkswagen Magotan sedan was revealed in certification photographs at the beginning of the year; the public premiere was held in the spring at the Beijing Motor Show. Now prices have been announced in China and sales have started. As before, the four-door is produced locally at the FAW Volkswagen JV plant. Let us remind you that the previous Magotan is a clone of the old VW Passat B8 series. The new sedan moved away from the Passat. Firstly, the model for China now has its own exterior design. And secondly, in Europe the new generation VW Passat with the B9 index is available exclusively as a station wagon. However, there will also be a new Passat sedan itself — in China, it will be produced by the SAIC Volkswagen joint venture, the presentation of this model will be held in the fall.

The new Magotan received original bumpers and a radiator grille. Plus, it has sharper matrix headlights compared to the current European Passat. The length of the VW Magotan is 4990 mm versus 4886 mm for its predecessor, the wheelbase is the same 2871 mm. The indicators of the “old world” station wagon of the B9 generation are 4917 and 2841 mm, respectively. The four-door has 17-, 18- or 19-inch wheels.
Inside, the sedan as a whole repeated the “barn”. Although there is still an important difference: like the Chinese new Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro crossover, the Magotan has a third display — it is located in front of the front passenger. Depending on the configuration (there are only three of them so far), the list of equipment also includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilation and heated seats (there is also a massage function), car parking (remote parking is also provided), wireless charging for a smartphone, three-zone climate control, a standard DVR, adaptive cruise control, auto braking, lane keeping and blind spot monitoring systems.

The new Volkswagen Magotan is offered with petrol turbo-fours 1.5 and 2.0 with a power of 160 and 220 hp. Accordingly, both engines are paired with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. Front-wheel drive only. The predecessor remains on sale for now, it is available with 1.4 (150 hp) and 2.0 (186 or 220 hp) turbo engines, plus the old Magotan has a hybrid version. Probably, the new sedan will also become a hybrid later.
The new generation four-door was estimated at 179,900 — 246,900 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 2,149,000 — 2,950,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.
Meanwhile, Kolesa.ru has already met the new Volkswagen Magotan. It is possible that such a sedan will subsequently reach Russia via “parallel” routes.
