Earlier on Wednesday it became known about the arrest of a 38-year-old citizen of the Russian Federation on charges of exporting goods to Russia in circumvention of sanctions.
As NHK TV channel reported, the detainee is the head of the Astrade trading company with an office in Osaka, Andrei Sova. According to the case file, in January 2023, he allegedly exported goods, including jet skis, ship engines, and used motorcycles to Russia, bypassing anti-Russian sanctions.
As the Sankei newspaper, in turn, clarified, the Osaka police received a tip about possible illegal actions back in April last year. In the fall of 2023, Astrade's office in Osaka was searched. The total cost of goods that were exported was 42 million yen (about 260 thousand dollars at the current exchange rate), the publication noted.
This arrest was the first in Japan on charges of exporting goods to the Russian Federation in circumvention of the sanctions regime.
