MOSCOW, July 11 Former head coach of English Liverpool rejected the offer of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) to lead the country's national team after being eliminated from the America's Cup, The New York Times reports.
According to the publication, Klopp told USSF representatives that he would like to take a break from football. Despite the refusal, the federation remains interested in the 57-year-old specialist.
On Thursday night, the USSF announced the resignation of Gregg Berhalter, under whose leadership the Americans were unable to reach the playoffs of the home America's Cup. USSF head Cindy Parlow said the organization is looking for «the right person to lead Team USA into a new era of success.» According to The Independent, Klopp has been tapped to manage Team USA at the 2026 World Cup. The German specialist previously complained about a lack of energy and the need for a career break.
Klopp worked at Liverpool from October 2015 to spring 2024. Under his leadership, the English club won the Champions League, the English Championship, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, the English League Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19. For the first time in history, 48 national teams will take part in the tournament.
