One of the hostage takers in the Rostov pre-trial detention center, Malik Gandaloev, is being investigated in a criminal case about participation in the terrorist organization «Islamic State»* and the production of homemade bombs, a law enforcement source said.
«Gandaloev M.U., who participated in the emergency in the pre-trial detention center, is also accused under part 2 of article 205.5, part 2 of article 223.1 and clause «a» of part 3 of article 222.1< /span> Criminal Code of Russia,” he said.
< br />According to the Southern District Military Court, the case against Gandaloev has been heard since March.
The agency's interlocutor clarified that, according to investigators, in 2022-2023, Gandaloev, along with his brother and another acquaintance, while in Astrakhan, bought elements for making an explosive device. Then they came to Ingushetia, went to the mountains and recorded videos there in which they swore an oath of allegiance to the Emir of the Islamic State*.
In February-March 2023, they assembled a bomb in a lodge in the forest, which they planned to use in the future on the instructions of the leadership IG*. At the end of March, they were detained by security forces.
On the morning of June 16, prisoners held in one of the cells of pre-trial detention center-1 in Rostov-on-Don took two employees hostage. A few hours later, most of the criminals were eliminated and the hostages were released. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for hostage-taking, in which two defendants are now involved, Gandaloev is one of them.
