KAZAN, July 13, Adela Ziatdinova. Received an invitation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), freestyle wrestler Shamil Mamedov refused to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris, the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) reported.
Mamedov was listed as having accepted the IOC's invitation to compete at the Paris Olympics, while other Russian wrestlers were listed as having initially accepted invitations and then subsequently declined them.
“Shamil Mamedov will not perform at the Olympic Games due to a knee injury,” the FSBR press service said.
Previously, due to the fact that the country's strongest athletes were not allowed to participate in the Games, the Russian judo and wrestling teams refused to participate in the Olympics. On Thursday, the United World of Wrestling published application forms for the Games in Paris, Mamedov was also present in them.
