A resident of Orel was sentenced to four years in prison in a case of transferring data on military facilities to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in exchange for assistance in moving to America

The Oryol Regional Court sentenced local resident Ivan Tolpygin to four years in prison on charges of “confidential cooperation” with a foreign organization (Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code). Information about this was found on the court’s website by SOTA.

The decision in the case was made today, July 15. In addition to the main punishment, the man was given a fine of 500 thousand rubles.

According to investigators, 29-year-old Tolpygin was “an active opponent of the special military operation carried out by Russia.” Because of this, he “proactively established contact” with a person who, in his opinion, was a representative of Ukrainian intelligence. The accused, as the court's press service writes, sent him “information that threatens the security of Russia.”

Tolpygin’s detention became known in April 2024. Then the security forces claimed that he decided to cooperate with Ukrainian intelligence in exchange for help in moving to America and “a considerable amount of money.”

“On my part, I expressed a desire for them to help me come to the United States with a ready-made green card,” Tolpygin said after his arrest.

The accused, as the press service of the Oryol Regional Court writes, admitted his guilt.
