MOSCOW, July 14 European Solidarity Party “accused the Ukrainian authorities of disrupting the trip of their delegation led by ex-President Petro Poroshenko to the United States, noting that Ukraine has serious problems with democracy.
The day before, the Ukrainian publication «Strana», with reference to Rada deputy Sofia Fedina, wrote that Poroshenko was not allowed to leave the country for the US Republican Party Congress.
«The Ukrainian authorities secretly blocked the trip of the European Solidarity delegation led by Petro Poroshenko to the pre-election Republican National Convention in Milwaukee… The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada was informed about the existence of the corresponding invitation several months ago. But it never provided permission to leave,» the party said in a statement published on its Telegram channel.
European Solidarity noted that during the visit, meetings of their delegation were planned, including with former US President Donald Trump.
“»The disruption of the visit demonstrates the existence of systemic problems with democracy in Ukraine… This problem arose a long time ago. We restrained ourselves in our assessments. First, so as not to harm the decision to begin negotiations on accession to the EU, then, so as not to harm our positions Ukraine at the NATO summit… The time has come to recognize the depth and seriousness of the problems with democracy in Ukraine,” the party noted.
European Solidarity stated that they will inform partners in the US, EU and NATO about the current situation.
