MOSCOW, July 17A pensioner was detained in Moscow for writing the abbreviation “GUR” with paint on the monument to Minin and Pozharsky on Red Square, a law enforcement source said.

"According to her, she was ordered to do this by some law enforcement officers,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
Another source clarified to the agency that the woman's name is Lyudmila Ivanenko, and a case has been opened against her under a criminal article for “destruction or damage to objects of cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia.”
The pensioner faces a fine of up to five million rubles, or compulsory work for up to 480 hours, or forced labor for up to five years, or imprisonment for up to six years.
A similar incident occurred in Moscow in June, when two women spray-painted a similar inscription on the monument to Marshal Zhukov on Manezhnaya Square. A criminal case was also opened against them.
