The political scientist assessed Trump's chances of improving relations with Russia

MOSCOW, July 16 US presidential candidate, ex- President Donald Trump, if elected, despite his positive attitude towards Russia, is unlikely to be able to implement a plan to normalize relations with Moscow due to the general Russophobic policy in the United States; for the same reason, Russia was not mentioned in the new program of the Republican Party, he said leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, political scientist and Americanist Konstantin Blokhin.
Earlier, the US Republican Party at the congress approved a new unification program, which mentioned the prevention of a third world war, restoring peace in Europe and the Middle East, and confronting China, but did not mention Russia.

«It is obvious that it was the Russian case, the ties with Russia that were perceived by the establishment as a toxic matter, and the establishment tried to present Trump as an agent of the Kremlin, Putin's agent, a spy, and so on and so forth. Therefore, most likely, they did not mention it for this very reason. We understand perfectly well that even despite the fact that Trump is extremely positive about Russia, negative about Ukraine, has repeatedly spoken about the need to normalize relations with Russia, it is not a fact that he will be able to implement this plan, it is not a fact that he will be able to implement it,» Blokhin said.

He emphasized that both American parties, both the Republican and the Democratic, are in fact Russophobic, and supporters of improving relations with Russia can be «counted on the fingers of one hand.» According to the expert, many in the Republican Party view the Russian Federation as an existential challenge and threat.
«The fact that they didn't mention (Russia — ed.) is most likely an attempt to avoid these sharp corners, because in addition to Trump in the Republican Party, he is already being considered by everyone, by a large number of influential politicians, businessmen, as a future president, and Russia is their main headache there,» Blokhin concluded.
